Computers slow down gradually, and most people only notice when it gets bad. These habits keep yours in good shape.
- Install updates. Windows, macOS and app updates fix security holes. Don't keep pressing "remind me later".
- Restart regularly. Shutting the lid isn't the same as restarting. A restart once or twice a week clears out problems.
- Remove programs you don't use. Especially the ones that start automatically and sit in the background.
- Keep some free space. When your drive is nearly full, everything slows down. Aim for at least 15 to 20% free.
- Keep it cool and clean. Dust clogs fans and vents, making your computer run hot and slow. A professional internal clean makes a big difference.
- Be choosy about browser extensions. Too many slow your browser down, and some are adware in disguise.
- Use proper security software. See why we recommend Bitdefender.
- Back up. Because one day, something will fail. See why backup matters.
Still slow?
An older computer with a traditional hard drive can often be transformed by upgrading to an SSD and adding memory, for far less than a new machine. Our health check and tune-up service will tell you whether an upgrade is worthwhile.
