These terms cover the work we do for you, whether that's a laptop repair, a phone system, a website or a monthly support contract. We've kept them as short and plain as we can. If anything is unclear, call us on 01695 555055 and we'll explain.
1. Who we are
SOLAR IT, 56 New Court Way, Ormskirk, Lancashire, L39 2YT. Phone 01695 555055, email help@solarit.uk. In these terms "we" and "us" means SOLAR IT, and "you" means the person or business we're working for.
Some sections only apply to home users (consumers) and some only to business customers. Where that's the case, we say so. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
2. Quotes and prices
- We'll give you a price or an estimate before we start. A quote is a fixed price for the work described. An estimate is our best guess and may change once we know more.
- If a job turns out to need more work or parts than expected, we'll contact you and get your agreement before going ahead. We won't run up extra charges without asking.
- If there's a charge for diagnosis, we'll tell you what it is before we start. If you go ahead with the repair, the diagnosis charge is usually included in the repair price.
- Quotes are valid for 30 days unless we say otherwise. Prices for parts and hardware can change with suppliers' prices.
- Prices for home users include VAT where it applies. Prices for business customers are shown before VAT unless we say otherwise.
3. Repairs and workshop jobs
- Back up first. Please back up anything important before you hand over a device. Repairs, new parts and fresh installs of Windows or macOS can sometimes mean data is lost, even when everything is done correctly. We take care with your data, but if it matters to you, ask us to make a backup first and we'll quote for it.
- Passwords. We may need your device password to test the repair. We only use it for the job and don't keep it once the job is finished.
- Things we find. If we find something seriously wrong, like a failing drive or a damaged charging circuit, we'll tell you even if it isn't what you brought it in for.
- Unrepairable items. Some faults can't be fixed economically. If that happens, we'll tell you, and you'll only pay any diagnosis charge we agreed.
- Old parts. Parts we replace are yours. Let us know if you'd like them back. Otherwise we'll recycle them responsibly.
- Electronics. Board-level and appliance repairs, including GHD repairs through wefixghds.com, are carried out on the same terms.
4. Collecting your device
We'll let you know when your device is ready. Please collect it within 30 days. If it's still with us after that, we'll contact you again in writing. If it hasn't been collected 90 days after we first told you it was ready, and we've given you written notice, we may sell, recycle or dispose of it as the law allows. If we sell it, we'll keep what you owe us and hold the rest for you.
5. Paying us
- Home users: payment is due when you collect your device or when the work is finished. We can ask for a deposit on parts we order specially for you.
- Business customers: invoices are due within 14 days unless we've agreed otherwise in writing. We can charge interest and fees on late payments under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998, and can pause services if invoices remain unpaid after we've warned you.
- Hardware we supply stays ours until it's paid for in full.
6. Guarantees
- Different services carry different guarantees. We'll tell you what guarantee applies to your job when we quote, and it will be shown on your invoice.
- If a fault covered by that guarantee comes back because of our work, we'll put it right at no charge.
- New parts and hardware come with the manufacturer's warranty. We'll help you make a warranty claim.
- Our guarantees don't cover new faults, accidental damage, liquid damage, viruses picked up after the job, or work done on the device by someone else after us.
- For home users, any guarantee we give is on top of your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which says services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and goods must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality.
7. Cancelling (home users)
If you agree to a service with us away from our workshop, for example by phone, by email or at your home, you have 14 days to change your mind. If you ask us to start within those 14 days and then cancel, you'll pay for the work done up to that point. If a service is fully finished within the 14 days at your request, you can't cancel it afterwards. Parts made or ordered to your specification can't be returned unless they're faulty. To cancel, just call or email us.
8. Remote support
For remote support we use Splashtop SOS. A session only starts when you run the app and give us the code, and you can end it at any time. You'll be able to see everything we do on your screen. We'll only access what we need to fix the problem.
9. Monthly services and contracts (business customers)
- This covers support contracts, managed WiFi, cloud backup, Microsoft 365, Bitdefender, domains, hosting and similar monthly or yearly services.
- Unless your agreement says otherwise, monthly services carry on until either of us gives 30 days' notice in writing. Yearly licences and subscriptions renew for another year unless you tell us 30 days before the renewal date.
- Some licences, such as yearly Microsoft 365 plans, are fixed for their term by the supplier and can't be cancelled or reduced part way through. We'll tell you when that applies.
- You're responsible for keeping your own passwords private, and for what your staff do with the accounts we set up.
- Backups we provide are a service to help you recover data, not a promise that every file can always be restored. We'll tell you how the backup works and recommend testing restores regularly.
10. Phone systems and telecoms
- Our telecom services are also provided under our telecom terms & conditions. If anything there conflicts with these terms, the telecom terms apply to the phone service.
- Emergency calls. Internet phone services, including VitalPBX systems and Yealink phones, need power and a working internet connection. During a power cut or broadband fault, you may not be able to make calls, including calls to 999 and 112. Please keep another way to call for help, such as a mobile phone. Your emergency address must be kept up to date with us, so the emergency services know where you are.
- You keep the right to move your numbers to another provider if you leave, and we'll help you do it, as Ofcom requires.
- Call charges and line rental are billed as set out in your agreement.
11. Websites, domains and email
- We'll agree with you what the website will include before we start. Extra pages or features added later may cost extra, and we'll quote first.
- You're responsible for making sure the words, photos and logos you give us are yours to use.
- Once the website is paid for in full, you own the design and content we created for you. Software and tools we used to build it remain the property of whoever made them.
- Domains are registered in your name, or your business's name. You can move a domain to another provider whenever you want, once any invoices for it are paid.
- Domains and hosting have to be renewed on time to keep working. We'll remind you before renewal dates.
12. Software and licences
We only install properly licensed software. If you give us software or a licence key to install, you confirm you're entitled to use it. We don't install pirated software, and we can refuse work that would break the law. If we come across illegal material while working on a device, we may have to report it.
13. Our responsibility to you
- We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for loss that couldn't have been foreseen.
- We don't exclude or limit our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
- Home users: we only supply our services for domestic and private use. We're not responsible to home users for loss of business, profit or business opportunity.
- Business customers: we're not responsible for loss of profit, revenue, business or data, or any indirect loss. Our total liability under any contract is limited to the amount you've paid us under that contract in the 12 months before the problem happened.
- We're not responsible for delays or failures caused by things outside our reasonable control, such as supplier failures, internet outages or extreme weather.
14. Your information
We look after your personal information as set out in our GDPR & privacy policy.
15. Complaints
If you're unhappy with anything we've done, please tell us first, by phone on 01695 555055 or by email to help@solarit.uk. We'll look into it and get back to you as quickly as we can, and usually within 5 working days. For telecom complaints, our telecom terms explain how to use the independent dispute resolution scheme if we can't sort it out between us.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies is the one on this page when you agreed the work with us. For ongoing services, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice of any change that affects you significantly.
17. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Home users living in Scotland or Northern Ireland can also bring proceedings in their local courts.
